What is the core composition of the RGB to LVDS interface board?

The core of the RGB to LVDS interface board is a PCB circuit board that integrates a dedicated conversion chip, used to connect the RGB signal source and the LVDS interface display screen. There are mainly two types of actual forms depending on the application scenario.

In order to help you quickly understand its core specifications, I have compiled the following table:

Feature classification

Common specifications/descriptions

Core functionality

Convert parallel RGB (TTL) signals into serial LVDS differential signals.

Input interface

Connect signal sources (such as the main control board), commonly using 24 bit or 28 bit parallel buses, with interface forms mostly consisting of 20/30/40 pin FPC flexible cables or connectors.

Output interface

Connect LCD panels using LVDS differential pairs, commonly with 20 pin or 30 pin connectors (such as 2.0mm pitch pin headers).

Key chips

Specialized conversion chips, such as MS90C385B (China), SN75LVDS82/83 (TI), DS90C189 (TI), etc.

Power supply

Usually powered by a single power source, such as 3.3V or 1.8V

Support resolution

Depending on the chip, commonly supports VGA (640x480) to SXGA (1280x1024) and even higher (such as QXGA 2048x1536)

Physical form

Most of them are small rectangular PCB boards, ranging in size from a few centimeters to over ten centimeters, with peripheral components such as chips, connectors, and resistors.

The specific composition and form of the board

In addition to the above specifications, a complete conversion board typically includes the following parts:

Core conversion chip: This is the "brain" of the board. For example, a 5.7-inch LCD module uses TI's SN75LVDS82 chip to complete signal conversion.

Input/output interface: The input side is connected to an RGB signal source, and the output side is connected to the display screen through a standard LVDS connector (such as a 20 pin). A self-made conversion board in the developer community has both a 40 pin FPC socket (for input) and a set of 30 pin pin headers (for LVDS output).

PCB and peripheral circuits: The PCB itself is not large, and in addition to chips and connectors, it is also equipped with necessary resistors, capacitors, and inductors such as power filtering and impedance matching.

Two main product forms

In practical applications, you will mainly encounter the following two forms:

Independent adapter board/module: This is the most common and flexible form. It is an independent circuit board, connected to the signal source and display screen at both ends. The RGB40P to LVDS 30P small board designed by developers for the Quanzhi F133 chip is a typical example. Commercial products such as ANDpSi056ET0S-HB-KIT also belong to this category, which directly provides standard DB15 VGA interface and LVDS output.

Integrated adapter board for display screens: For the convenience of users, many industrial display screens will directly integrate this adapter board on the back or side of the LCD module and sell it as a whole module. For example, the WF57VTCECLNN0 5.7-inch TFT module "includes LVDS interface conversion".

How to choose and apply

If you are a developer or need customized features, you can choose an independent conversion board that matches or designs according to the output format of the main control chip (RGB bits, synchronization signal polarity) and the LVDS interface definition of the screen (single channel/dual channel, pin sequence).

If you are a terminal product integrator: In order to save space and simplify assembly, prioritize purchasing a liquid crystal display module (LCM) that has already integrated an LVDS adapter board, so that only one LVDS signal connection needs to be processed.

If you can tell me your specific application scenario (such as what device it is used on, what size and resolution of the screen it drives), I can provide you with more specific advice.
