AUO 7-inch industrial display selection guide

How to Choose an AUO 7-Inch 800 × 480 LCD

The 14 AUO models reviewed here share a 7-inch, 800 × 480 WVGA format, but they are not interchangeable. Their signal interfaces, connector and power requirements, touch construction, brightness, operating limits and lifecycle positions differ. Use this guide to narrow a shortlist, then approve the exact part number against the latest controlled datasheet and a sample.

Short answer: Select the host interface first. For a wide-viewing-angle LVDS design, compare G070VAN01.0, G070VW01.012 and the newer G070VAN01.3, subject to current supply confirmation. For integrated touch, compare G070VAT01.0 (projected capacitive) with G070VTT01.0 (four-wire resistive). For a parallel-RGB host and a specified -30 to +80 °C operating range, review A070VTN06.4. Confirm the exact revision, availability and design fit before choosing any model.

Start with the Application Requirement

Wide-view LVDS

Industrial HMI without touch

G070VAN01.0 specifies 480 cd/m² typical brightness and -30 to +80 °C operation. G070VAN01.3 lists 520 cd/m² typical brightness, but its final revision and production stage need written confirmation. G070VAN01.1 is a lower-brightness 200 cd/m² option for an indoor design review.

Wide temperature

LVDS plus integrated LED driver

G070VW01.012 specifies 400 cd/m² typical brightness, a 20-pin LVDS input, an integrated 12 V backlight driver and -30 to +85 °C operation measured at the panel surface. That temperature wording must not be recast as an ambient-air rating.

Touch input

Choose the touch technology

G070VAT01.0 combines an AHVA LCD with a projected-capacitive touch/cover-lens assembly. G070VTT01.0 uses separate four-wire resistive touch and a 40-pin parallel-RGB LCD interface. The touch-controller connection for G070VAT01.0 still needs the controlled assembly drawing.

Parallel RGB

Check pin count and rail design

A070VTN06.4 accepts 18/24-bit parallel RGB on a 50-pin connector and specifies 500 cd/m² typical brightness. Do not assume that another 40-, 50-, 51- or 60-pin RGB model shares its pinout or power sequence.

Legacy service only

Very high brightness

G070VTN02.0 lists 1500 cd/m² typical and A070VTN06.1 lists 1250 cd/m² minimum center brightness. Both are discontinued. These different measurement categories should not be ranked as equivalent, and neither is a safe new-design choice without a current-supply plan.

Replacement projects

Keep the full model suffix

G070VW01 V0, G070VW01 V002 and G070VW01.012 have similar names, but their panel technology, controlled drawings and backlight arrangements are not automatically the same. Match the rear label and AUO part number before evaluating a substitute.

Compare All 14 AUO 7-Inch LCD Models

Brightness values below are typical unless explicitly marked “minimum.” Temperature values are from the reviewed source for each model; “panel surface” and “absolute maximum” are not interchangeable with ordinary ambient operating ratings. “Confirm supply” means the reviewed datasheet does not establish current production or stock.

Lifecycle and source warning: A historic AUO datasheet describes a design; it does not prove that it is still in production. The 2016, 2018 and 2021 discontinuation years in this guide come from supplier product history, not from the older AUO specifications or an AUO EOL notice. Request written lifecycle, revision, MOQ and lead-time confirmation for the exact model before a new design or purchase.

Five Checks That Prevent a Wrong 7-Inch Panel Selection

  1. Match the complete model and part number. Keep every suffix, such as V0, V002, .012 or (001). Photograph the rear label and compare it with the exact AUO document cover and outline drawing.
  2. Match the signal, not just “800 × 480.” A 20- or 30-pin LVDS input is not a 40-, 50-, 51- or 60-pin parallel-RGB input. A070VW08 V2 also uses SPI for control; SPI does not make its display input equivalent to LVDS.
  3. Design the backlight and power separately. Some G070VW01 versions contain a 12 V LED driver, while many other models need external constant-current LED drive. Check panel rails, start-up sequence, dimming and the host connector pinout.
  4. Interpret optical and environmental figures correctly. Typical and minimum brightness are different; viewing-angle test thresholds can differ. Panel-surface temperature, ambient temperature, absolute maximum and reliability-test conditions are not interchangeable. Cover glass and bonding also affect final-system visibility.
  5. Validate the complete assembly. Compare active area, outline, mounting, connector location, touch FPC, cover lens, cable, EMI and thermal behavior. Test a sample in the intended host before approving a replacement or volume order.

Frequently Asked Selection Questions

Which AUO 7-inch LCD has projected-capacitive touch?G070VAT01.0 is the integrated projected-capacitive touch/cover-lens assembly in this comparison. Its LCD uses LVDS; obtain the controlled touch-controller and cover-lens drawing before designing the host connection.
Which model has four-wire resistive touch?G070VTT01.0 has a separate four-wire resistive touch FPC. The LCD itself uses 40-pin parallel RGB, not LVDS. AUO final specification Ver. 1.4 gives 380 cd/m² typical brightness.
What is the brightest model in this comparison? The discontinued G070VTN02.0 lists 1500 cd/m² typical. The discontinued A070VTN06.1 lists 1250 cd/m² minimum center luminance under a different test condition. Neither is a confirmed current-production recommendation; ask for a supported high-brightness solution.
Can G070VW01 V0 be replaced directly by G070VW01 V002 or G070VW01.012?No direct interchangeability is established here. Even when size, resolution and LVDS family match, compare controlled connector/pin assignments, LVDS mapping, backlight-driver controls, outline and optical behavior, then qualify a sample in the target equipment.
Does the same 7-inch size and 800 × 480 resolution mean two panels are compatible? No. It identifies only the image format. The host interface, power rails, LED driver, mechanical envelope, touch assembly and temperature limits must also match or be redesigned.
