Define direct-sun, open-shade and night conditions; viewing distance and angle; required contrast; cover lens; touch stack; polarizer orientation; and whether sunglasses are expected. Measure the finished assembly rather than relying only on bare-panel luminance.

Backlight and enclosure design
Higher backlight power creates heat. Check current regulation, dimming range, startup, thermal paths, sealed-enclosure temperature, hotspot risk and brightness derating. Automatic dimming can improve night usability and power consumption.
Qualification tests
Test direct and oblique light, temperature extremes, solar load, condensation, vibration, gloves, rain or contamination where relevant. Record luminance and readability after warm-up and during thermal steady state.
