A wide-temperature claim must be tied to the exact model, suffix, datasheet revision and stated operating or storage limit. The air temperature outside an enclosure is not the same as the panel temperature, and cold start may be more demanding than steady operation.
Define the temperature profile
Specify ambient range, internal enclosure temperature, solar gain, warm-up time, duty cycle, airflow, nearby heat sources, altitude and humidity. Separate operating, startup, survival and storage requirements.
Temperature qualification table
| Decision area | Evidence required | Release rule |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanical | Drawing, active area, mounting and connector location | All hard limits pass |
| Signal | Interface, mapping, timing and pin assignment | Controller and cable validated |
| Power/backlight | Ratings, sequencing, enable and dimming | Measured through all states |
| Optical | Luminance, contrast, viewing and surface stack | Finished assembly passes |
| Environment | Operating/storage limits and system test | Margin documented |
| Supply | Exact suffix, lifecycle evidence and change control | Procurement approval |
Cold and hot behavior
At low temperature, response time, backlight startup and materials may behave differently. At high temperature, luminance, lifetime, polarizer condition and electronics margins can degrade. Use the manufacturer limits as boundaries, not as proof that the assembled system will pass.
System validation
Instrument the panel, backlight driver, controller and enclosure. Exercise cold start, image transitions, maximum brightness, restart, power cycling and long-duration hot operation. Document pass criteria before testing.

Frequently asked questions
Are storage and operating temperature the same?
No. Use the separately stated limits for the exact model.
Does a wide-temperature panel make the whole HMI wide-temperature?
No. Every component and the enclosure thermal design must be qualified.
What should a cold-start test include?
Power-up, backlight ignition, image stability, response and repeated cycling at the specified minimum.
Can temperature data be copied from a related suffix?
No. Verify the exact suffix and datasheet revision.
