LCD Light Leakage: Diagnosis, Acceptance and Corrective Actions

Date:2026-08-28

Light leakage describes unwanted bright regions visible on dark content, often near edges or corners. Some nonuniformity can be inherent at high brightness in a dark room, while severe or localized leakage may indicate assembly stress or damage.

Diagnostic conditions

  1. Warm the display to stable operation.
  2. Use a full-black test image at defined brightness.
  3. Control ambient light, camera exposure and viewing angle.
  4. Compare free-standing and installed conditions.
  5. Record location, temperature, fastener torque and orientation.

Likely causes

  • Bezel, screw, gasket or adhesive pressure on the panel.
  • Twisted frame or insufficient mechanical clearance.
  • Bonding stress, contamination or optical-film damage.
  • Backlight/frame nonuniformity or transport damage.
  • Camera overexposure exaggerating a normal condition.

Do not press the panel or loosen structural parts without an approved procedure. Corrective action may require adjusting enclosure support, gasket compression, adhesive design or replacing a damaged module. Define cosmetic acceptance with controlled test conditions and reference samples.

Review LCD damage-prone components, optical bonding materials and send defect evidence.

Reviewed 2026-08-28. Acceptance limits must use an agreed test method.
